Lackavihoonig

On W side of road near Lackavihoonig Bridge, c. 200m NNE of St Abigail's well (14004). No visible surface trace. OS Field Book of 1839 records stone called 'Lackaduhong or the Thief's Flag (?) Lackavihoonig' at junction of three townlands (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 331). According to Grove White (ibid.), it was a large flag imprinted with shape of a man's bare foot and the feet of a cow and calf, which he was stealing; St Abigail fastened him and animals to stone until owner came and took him away (ibid.). 'The stone was considered an antiquity but is now broken up to gravel the new road from Kanturk to Cork' (ibid.). Bridge c. 15m to S named 'Lackavihoonig Br.' On 1938 OS 6-inch map.
