Lombardstown Bridge — Report the wrong picture

Five-arch road limestone bridge over tributary to River Blackwater, built c. 1855. Coursed squared rubble stone parapet walls having lightly-tooled copings and terminating in square-plan rusticated stone piers. Segmental arches having tooled stone voussoirs, with string course above arches of each elevation. Limestone piers to arches with impost courses, and U-cutwaters to each end with stepped domed caps, atop concrete plinths with V-cutwaters to each end.

An elegant road bridge which exhibits finely executed limestone ashlar detailing. Its construction serves as a reminder of the engineering achievements and the quality of local craftsmanship in the mid-nineteenth century. It is not shown on the first edition 6" OS map. Local information suggests that this is the second Lombardstown Bridge, the first having been built over the Douglas River.
