What is recorded here

Cast-iron post box, erected c.1880, with V R insignia and crown. Mounted in roughcast rendered wall.
This cast-iron post box is an important feature in the social and urban fabric of the village. Though the design is simple, the high relief casting of the lettering and crown are well executed.

J. O'ConnellHouse · 98 yd

Explorer Tom J. O'Connell in Skreen would review its visitors as 'adequate, though they missed the carved brackets entirely.' Late nineteenth-century shopfront with timber lettering that’s seen better days. Bring a map, get lost in the nostalgia.

Skreen ChurchChurch · 147 yd

Explorer Tom Skreen Church in Skreen sits on a hill where Tara’s ridge looms like a giant's shoulder. A mythological king’s daughter is buried beneath the grass, but nobody remembers her name. Count the crows, then count again.

Explorer Tom Lia Fail in Castleboy inspired a poem so bad even the sheep walked away and hid. It’s sitting on top of a barrow like it owns the whole hill. Bring curiosity, leave with a better story than mine, please try to.

Lia Fáil: Hill of TaraLegend location · 2.1 mi

Explorer Tom Lia Fáil: Hill of Tara is a stone with high standards. Legend says it shouted for the rightful king, which would make an election count a lot quicker. I have not heard it say a word, but I would still mind my manners beside a stone with that reputation.

Battle of Tara HillBattle · 2.2 miBattle of Tara (Ireland)Major battlefield · 2.2 mi

Explorer Tom Battle of Tara (Ireland) in County Meath has had more names than I have socks in my drawer right now. Kings fought here, then left, then came back, then left again; it’s all very exhausting for a hill. Have a nosey, politely.

European ash2.6 mi

Explorer Tom European ash in County Meath makes map makers look like amateurs because nobody can seem to find the right path to it. It’s basically hiding from its own fame. Best seen with a hangover and a sausage roll.
