Midden in Creadan

On Fornaght Strand, also known as Forenagh Beach, immediately N of Creadan Head. A storm in 2016 exposed the wooden of a fulacht fia (WA027-094----) which was excavated the same year (O’Donoghue 2016, licence no. 16E0079)). During the preliminary survey of the trough, a large area beyond the burnt stone spread was identified that contains a lot of shell, especially muscle shells. Following excavation, the remains of a possible shell midden, composed entirely of small cockle shells, with small twigs and some bird or fish bones, was exposed beneath the burnt stone spread associated with the fulacht fia.
