What is recorded here
Gateway, c.1830, comprising pair of limestone ashlar piers with moulded capping having inscribed acorn-style finials, cast-iron double gates with finials, and sections of random rubble stone flanking boundary walls to perimeter of site. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Island View.
An elegantly-composed gateway incorporating fine stone work, particularly to the finials, together with early-surviving decorative cast-iron gates, which enhance the artistic design quality of the composition. The gateway forms an discreet feature in the landscape, and contributes to the historic character of the area.
