Situated on a shelf towards the bottom of a N-facing slope. The church (MO017-033001-) is in the N part of a rectangular graveyard (dims c. 65m NW-SE; c. 50m NE-SW) defined by earthen banks with hedges and mature deciduous trees on all sides except the NW where there is a masonry wall bordering an ENE-WSW road. The Ley memorial is built into the W embrasure of the church. In the graveyard there are modern headstones and some from the eighteenth century, the earliest being 1708, but Shirley (1879, 334-7) read one with the date 1704. The inscriptions have been recorded (Mulligan 1985), although that of John English, dated 1698, was not noted in 2016. A stone (Wth 0.35m; H 0.28m) with carvings of mortality symbols is built into the W graveyard pier and is probably eighteenth century in date.

Old Church (in Ruins)Church · 23 yd

Explorer Tom Old Church in Drumswords was the centre of a massive parish argument that ended in a draw. It sits on a slope like a grumpy old man refusing to move. Bring a flask, take a seat on the wall, and act like you own the whole estate.

Saint Mary's Catholic ChurchChurch/chapel · 1138 yd

Explorer Tom Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Aghnamard has a stone tower that stands out like a sore thumb against the rendered walls. The whole parish once argued about whether the hood-mouldings were too fancy for a church, and nobody agreed. Whisper a secret into the stonework and see if it echoes back to you later.

Ture National SchoolSchool · 1153 yd

Explorer Tom Ture National School was designed by a mother-in-law who liked chamfered corners for safety. It sits next to the church, looking modest but surprisingly sturdy against traffic. Bring sandwiches, the ghost of a teacher might offer you one.

Radeerpark CreameryCreamery · 1552 ydRadeerpark National SchoolSchool · 1575 yd

Explorer Tom Radeerpark National School hides a biscuit tin treasure that is definitely just biscuits. The plaque says RAWDEERPARK because someone had a bad day with a typewriter. Look up at the roofline before you question the spelling too hard.

Explorer Tom Standing stone in Scarvy is hiding a treasure chest that definitely contains only a biscuit tin and some old newspapers from 1954. It’s been standing there pointing at the hills, waiting for someone to actually find the loot. Find a local and ask them the real story, then come back and tell me.

Saint John's WellSpring · 2.7 miGrave YardGraveyard · 2.7 mi

Explorer Tom Killeevan Glebe graveyard is D-shaped because the map makers were drunk one Tuesday afternoon and couldn’t decide on a square. It sits on a ridge, looking slightly confused about its own geometry. Snap one photo, then put the phone away and actually look.
