Holy well in Feraghfad

On the N side of a road, in wet poorly drained land overlooking bogland to the S. This spring well is enclosed by a small wellhouse that is constructed of concrete walls and a slated roof. It is open to the E and one step leads down to the water. Votive offerings have been placed on top of the side-walls and they also hang from the rafters of the roof over the well. Linked to Saint Gobnait, the well is traditionally associated with cures for eye ailments and general healing. Local folklore recalls that the saint, known for her metalworking skills and piety, founded a convent nearby, and the well’s waters were believed to have miraculous properties, attracting pilgrims, especially in times of plague or personal affliction.
