Pair of cut limestone benchmarks, erected c.1830, located on opposite sides of the opening to cathedral street on the junction to Market Square.

These benchmarks are an attractive and subtle item of street furniture. Of considerable historical importance, they attest to the nineteenth-century work of the Ordinance Survey in mapping all of Ireland. The benchmark carvings display fine craftsmanship and have retained a crisp intricacy.
