What is recorded here

Dunsany Castle stands in County Meath as a modernised Anglo-Norman fortress begun around 1180 by Hugh de Lacy, where four ancient towers still anchor a structure tripled in size by later generations. The Cusacks and later Plunketts have occupied it without pause, creating one of Ireland’s longest continuous family residences. Two mysterious mounds flank the front, possibly marking an earlier Irish fortification that gave the place its name, while the demesne holds a walled garden, ice house, and historic church.

Dunsany Castle was built in the 13th century by the MacDermotts, a Gaelic Irish clan, and later held by the Fitzgeralds, Earls of Kildare. It is important as a historical and architectural landmark associated with the medieval history of County Meath.
