Weir in Mahonstown once had a mill pond, a water-powered pump and an eel trap working beside it. The river was put to work and the eel was put down for dinner. Neither had come for an interview.
Stone weir, built c.1820.
Though presently in poor condition this weir is representative of nineteenth-century industrial activity. The weir formed a mill pond to the west of the weir. With a hydraulic ram and eel trap, formerly located to the site, this weir formed part of a group of structures relating to Mahonstown House.
