Freestanding water hydrant, erected c. 1870, on Doneraile Road, with round, fluted shaft, moulded base and fluted domed cap with acorn finial. Lion's head spout to front and recent tap to side. Set into footpath at side of road.

This hydrant exhibits attractive, well executed yet restrained detailing which enlivens the form of its utilitarian purpose. The lion's head motif is of particular artistic interest. The hydrant is an important reminder of town life before the widespread provision of piped water supply.
