Tregarron

Semi-detached three-bay two-storey over basement house, built c. 1860, having gabled end-bay entrance and porch to east elevation. Gabled and canted end-bay to south elevation, east end. Pitched slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Brick walls with brick plinth course and ornate foliate plaques to gable corners. Pointed arch openings having carved sandstone surrounds having keystones, limestone sills, brick continuous sill courses and replacement uPVC windows. Brick canopy over entrance having pitched slate roof and ornate consoles. Pointed-arch opening with overlight and timber panelled door. Flight of rendered steps to entrance having brick walls.

This pair is a notable example of Victorian Gothic Revival domestic architecture, which has many interesting and finely crafted features such as the foliate plaques and ornate entrance surround. It is part of a group of late nineteenth century housing which sprung up in this area following the arrival of the railway and the establishment of Youghal as a fashionable sea side resort.
