What is recorded here

Detached multiple-bay single- and two-storey factory, built 1946-7. Now disused. Comprising single-bay three-stage entrance block, flanked by four-bay two-storey block to north and by recessed two-bay two-storey block to south, having projecting single- and two-storey sections. Fifteen-bay single-storey block to north. Flat roofs to main entrance section, with corrugated saw-tooth roofs and vent pipes to northern block. Roughcast rendered walls having render plinth. Double-height engaged concrete columns flanking entrance with elongated entablature above. Clocks to three faces of central entrance block. Carved stone plaque to set over entrance. Square-headed openings having glass bricks to entrance block and to projecting flanking sections to south of entrance. Square-headed openings set in triple arrangements to northern block, having metal casement windows with concrete sills. Pair of timber panelled double leaf doors to entrance with limestone step.
An excellent example of the Art Deco style, which is a rare fine throughout the country. It is particularly unusual to fine a building of this style outside the main cities. Surviving with much of its original fabric intact, it is a carefully detailed and well executed building. The bas relief plaque by the well known Cork sculptor, Seamus Murphy, depicts a woman working a loom, with spools of thread of either side, and appropriate motif for a purpose built textile factory.
