What is recorded here
Stackallan Lock in Ardmulchan has kept the keeper's house but lost the lock gates. That's an advanced stage of retirement: you still live over the job, but the job has been physically removed to prevent any misunderstanding.
Section of the Boyne Navigation, built c.1790, with ashlar limestone walls to channel. Lock gates no longer in-situ. Former lock keeper's house to site.
This former lock forms an interesting group of related structure with the former canal workers' house and the canal bridge to the south-west. It also forms part of a boarder group with the surviving structures along the canal. Clearly the work of skilled masons, the channel is executed with high quality masonry.
