What is recorded here
Jackson records the belief that St. Patrick baptised people at this well, but that there was no tradition of cures or patterns associated with it (1979-80, 151). The corbelled structure covering the well may be ornamental in origin and part of the landscaping of Belan Demesne.
Date of upload: 15 September 2016
St. Patrick’s Well in Belan is associated with the tradition that St. Patrick himself baptised people at the site. The well is marked by a corbelled structure, though no local traditions of cures or annual patterns (festivals) are recorded.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
