What is recorded here

Marked on the 1912 OS 6-inch map as 'St. Dennis's Altar'. A large rectangular slab with a flat surface set on outcrop, probably a natural erratic. (CLAJ 1930, 184) Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 03 August 2012
St. Denniss Alter is associated with St. Dennis, a lesser-known early Irish saint, and may have been a site of Christian worship or pilgrimage. The altar stone, likely repurposed from a pre-Christian ritual site, reflects the common practice of incorporating existing sacred landscapes into Christian tradition.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
