Detached T-plan nine-bay single-storey former national school, dated 1836, now in use as house. Comprising five-bay central block having pedimented central breakfront, flanked by lower two-bay recessed wings, and with single-bay return to rear. Hipped slate roofs with ridge crestings and finials, red brick chimneystacks, moulded red brick eaves course, and recent rooflights. Roughly-dressed limestone walls to front elevation, rubble limestone walls to side and rear elevations, all with redbrick block-and-start quoins and plinth course. Red brick pilasters flanking breakfront. Segmental-headed window openings with redbrick block-and-start surrounds, dressed limestone sill course, and replacement windows. Window to breakfront set into round-headed redbrick arch with dressed limestone dropped and projecting keystone and round-headed carved limestone date plaque. Rubble limestone boundary walls with recent gates and railings.
The red brick dressings, the variety of window types, and the rise and fall in the roofline are all typical of architecture of the Victorian era. A former school, it adds interest to the Midleton Road. The symmetry of the building is typical of many primary schools, with separate entrances for boys and girls.

Cloyne PlaygroundChildren's playground · 75 ydTom: I’m here to help · Computer-made picture. It does not show this playground.

Explorer Tom Cloyne Playground has caught my eye in County Cork. I bet a children's playground with a name like that could keep me talking all afternoon; I'm already inventing a daft little scene for it, and I'll stop before it turns into history.

Armorial plaque in Townparks (imokilly By., Cloyne Par.)Armorial plaque · 172 ydTom: I’m here to help · Computer-made picture. It does not show this monument.

Explorer Tom Armorial plaque in Townparks was ripped off a castle that got destroyed long ago. Now it’s just initials and a date floating in history books. If you see a ghost, ask it where it went!

Cloyne PresbyteryPresbytery/parochial/curate's house · 178 yd

Explorer Tom Cloyne Presbytery is sitting on its limestone steps looking too important for its own good. The render portico is showing off, but I bet it can’t handle a nosy neighbour asking for tea. Be nice to the presbytery!

Explorer Tom Architectural fragment in Townparks is playing possum inside St Coleman’s church. It’s got 'IHS Maria INS' carved on it, which sounds like a secret handshake for saints. Best visited with a curious kid and no timetable.

Saint Colman's Roman Catholic ChurchChurch/chapel · 195 yd

Explorer Tom Saint Colman's Roman Catholic Church in Townparks is planning to retire by moving to a better postcode. It’s got those giant Corinthian columns that make you feel small. Perfect spot for a nap.

fountain221 yd

Explorer Tom Fountain in Townparks was erected in 1879 by E. F. Litton to remember his wife. It’s got Corinthian colonettes that are definitely overachieving for a water spout. I’d bet it’s still whispering sweet nothings to the locals, though.

CastleCastle, tower house · 240 yd

Explorer Tom Castle in Townparks is known only from an 18th-century sketch, so it’s like a celebrity who refuses to do press interviews. It had an oriel window, which is just fancy talk for a balcony with attitude. Linger, it’s not going anywhere and neither should you.

Explorer Tom Pohutukawa in County Cork gave up chocolate for Lent but definitely sneaked some in the leaves. It’s a New Zealand tree pretending it belongs here. Ideal spot for a dramatic phone call about your ex.
