What is recorded here

Fairy fort / ringfort in Knockanacullin is a fairy fort or ringfort in Knockanacullin, County Waterford, Ireland. The 1999 Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford recorded the site in pasture on a flat landscape and stated that it was not visible at ground level. The 1840 map showed an oval embanked enclosure about 40 metres north-south and 30 metres east-west, while the 1928 map showed a D-shaped enclosure about 40 metres east-west and 25 metres north-south, truncated at the north by an east-west field bank.
Marked as an oval embanked enclosure (dims. c. 40m N-S; c. 30m E-W) on the 1840 ed. and as a D-shaped enclosure (ext. dims. c. 40m E-W; c. 25m N-S) truncated at N by an E-W field bank on the 1928 ed. of the OS 6-inch maps. Situated in pasture on a flat landscape, it is not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 17 November 2010
