What is recorded here

Four bullaun stones of coarse conglomerate, one unfinished, the others with one, two and three basins, are in the interior of possible ecclesiastical enclosure (WA014-018001-). A D-shaped stone (dims. 0.96m x 0.94m; H 0.2m) has a single basin (diam. 0.3-0.33m; D 9cm). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 17 November 2010

Probably dating to the early Christian period, bullaun stones were likely used for ritual purification or as holy water fonts in monastic or ecclesiastical settings. They may also have had earlier pre-Christian associations, such as with healing or ritual practices.
