Millgrove

Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1800. Projecting gable-fronted central bay, single-storey canted bay windows to south-west and north-east, single-storey with attic addition to north-west c. 1840, single-storey house attached to north-west. Pitched slate roofs, clay ridge tiles, roughcast-rendered chimneystacks, moulded metal gutters fixed to painted moulded timber fascia, painted timber scalloped bargeboard to south-west gable. Painted roughcast-rendered walling, smooth rendered plinth, even quoins. Square-headed window openings, smooth rendered reveals, painted and unpainted stone sills, painted timber six-over-six sliding sash windows to south-east block, painted timber casement and uPVC windows elsewhere, single round-headed window opening to north-west elevation, painted timber multiple-paned sliding sash window. Square-headed door opening to north-west, unpainted smooth rendered slightly projecting reveals, painted timber glass and panelled door, stone threshold step. Stable block to north-east, renovated, random rubble boundary wall, soldier boulder coping; multiple-bay two-storey stone derelict mill building to east, pitched slate roof, random rubble walling, red brick dressings to window and door openings. Set back from road, garden to three sides, random rubble boundary wall and timber gates.

This well-proportioned house was probably built as part of the Ballymascanlon Estate. The association of the site with the stables and mill buildings adds further interest to the house. The good quality sash windows and bargeboards enhances the design.
