Manning House

On N bank of River Funshion. Two-storey residential gable-ended house (long axis N-S) with projecting chimneys on gable ends, of similar appearance to late 17th/early 18th-century Manor House (14906), visible on opposite bank of Funshion River. Healy (1988, 421) refers to sculpture of stone fox over door; stones and some oak timbers taken from nearby Manning Castle (14367) to build house. Grove White (1905-25, vol. 3, 146) was informed locally that house was built by the Condon family. Down Survey (1655-6) barony map shows a mill on N bank of river in area to S of house, probably Manor Mill (15239) which is said to have been situated on S bank of river.
