Man-made underground passage

On limestone knoll. Recorded by Courtenay Moore (1900, 373) on the land of Mr Rialli [sic]; also investigated by J.C. Coleman (1947, 72-3). Entrance (Wth 1.05m) in NW face of quarry. Stone-built passage (L 4.15m; Wth 1.41m; H 1.72m; long axis NE-SW), roofed with lintels, sloped downwards to creepway (L 0.79m; Wth 0.68m; H 0.68m). Creepway allowed entry to stone-built beehive-shaped chamber (2.7m NW-SE; 2.6m NE-SW; H 2.69m), roofed by single capstone. Fragments of two quern stones noted in corbelling of chamber. Second similar Man-made underground passage (CO027-167---) close by. (McCarthy 1977, 297-8; Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 129; all measurements pers. comm. M.
