What is recorded here

Situated on top of rock outcrop known as Carrigmurrish that slopes down steeply to the S and W (H c. 15m). An enclosure (diam. c. 20m) defined by a stone-clad earthen bank (Wth c. 1.5m; H 1.5m) has been built around the opening to Ballinamintra cave (WA030-015003-) to prevent animals from falling into it. Although it has been described as a rath (Usher 1885, 362) the enclosure is not an antiquity. Ussher, R. J. (1885) A description of objects found in the kitchen middens of raths, JRSAI 17, 362-68. Date of upload/revision: 11th August, 2011. Compiled by: Michael Moore.
A local fairy fort (ringfort/rath); wider significance not recorded.
