What is recorded here

On the E side of the entrance to Lonehort Harbour on the SE side of Bere Island. A large irregularly shaped artificial breakwater (c. 60m N-S; c. 40m E-W; H c. 2m) is located on the seabed at the entrance to the harbour. It was formed by dumping a huge mound of stones on the seabed and acted as a wave deflector at the entrance. According to Breen (1996, 5), the stones were quarried from the nearby headland. There is a stone jetty (CO116-041001-) in the same harbour, c. 200m to the NE. (Breen 1996) The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
