What is recorded here

Near the low-water mark on the gravel beach at the SE end of Lonehort Harbour on the SE side of Bere Island. The basal remains of a stone jetty were found inside the harbour extending from the beach. This jetty would have accommodated boats with a shallow draught. The jetty is associated with a regular area of beach clearance, which led from low-water mark to an artificial hollow containing a naust (CO116-041002-) above high-water mark. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
