Hunting Bridge

Single-arch limestone road bridge over railway, built c. 1850. Coursed and snecked peck-dressed walls having peck-dressed copings terminating in square plan piers. Tooled limestone string course to each elevation above elliptical arch, set into with rock-faced limestone, with cut limestone impost courses to each side of bridge, over rock-faced limestone pier bases.

This bridge forms part of a group of related structures along the Cork-Dublin railway line. Although the bridge no loner carries a functioning road, the bridge is well preserved and forms a focal point in the landscape within view of Grange Bridge to the north. The limestone masonry was clearly executed by skilled craftsmen, and the contrasting squared peck-dressed and rock-faced stone add textural interest to the site.
