House

House, 17th century

What is recorded here

A house is depicted in this area of the Down Survey maps (1655-6). According to Mullally (1864-66, 17) the Hacket family, who have a late 17th-century graveslab in Fethard, 'resided at Gammonstown, now Lakefield'. The present townland house, Lakefield House, is a five-bay late Georgian house built in 1831, with two-storeys over basement and no traces of an earlier house. The 16th/17th-century house remains unlocated within townland. (www.buildingsofireland.ie) Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
