Grove House

Detached five-bay two-storey country house, built c.1850, now in use as a guesthouse. Hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and uPVC rainwater goods. Painted rendered walls with plinth. Camber-headed openings having six-over-six timber sliding sash and casement windows with concrete sills. Round-headed opening to rear with six-over-six timber sliding sash windows and fixed pane fanlight with stone sill. Square-headed opening to rear with replacement casement window and stone sill. Recessed segmental-arched opening with spoked fanlight, stone step, recent glazed door and flanking pilasters. Outbuildings to rear. Rendered boundary walls with gate piers and wrought-iron railings and gates.

The form of this handsome country house is typical of mid-nineteenth century rural houses of high status with a symmetrical façade, arched central door and hipped roof with centralised chimneystacks. The character of the building is maintained through the retention of much of its historic fabric. Of particular note are the camber-headed window openings which compliment the subtle door arch. The original outbuildings add to the setting and context.
