What is recorded here
Triple-arch humpback road bridge spanning Ilen River, built c.1780. Rubble stone construction with semi-circular arches with voussoirs and V-cutwaters. Recent metal tie plates. Roughcast rendered parapet with string course at road level having upright copings. Metal pipe to north elevation, set on concrete piers.
This road bridge displays skilled local craftsmanship in the well executed stone work and attention to detail, particularly evident in the voussoirs, triple-arch and string course. It is an essential modern transport link, as well as an insight into eighteenth century bridge building in rural Ireland.
