O'Cuileanain, in 1943, recorded a partly collapsed passage with several chambers and creepholes beneath the ringfort. McCarthy (1977, 348-9) said further collapse in 1970 forced men to fill the hole completely. The depression in the centre still marks where the underground rooms disappeared. What those chambers held, or who dug them, has vanished with the roof.
