What is recorded here

Some 40m to the SE of a rath (GA128-070----). This poorly preserved burial ground consists of an unenclosed oval area (NE-SW 24m, NW-SE 11.5m) sloping down to E. Within it a number of small set stones and slabs, haphazardly arranged, indicate graves. A mature tree is growing in the centre of the interior. Possibly a children's burial ground.

Explorer Tom Bridge in Rathwilladoon has changed its name so many times it's given up and just goes by Bridge for now. It sits next to an old railway station that stopped running decades ago but still feels important. Go now, before it gets famous again.

Fiddaun Castle (in ruins)Castle, tower house · 1.1 mi

Explorer Tom Fiddaun Castle hosted a dance that went way too far, ending in a six-storey tower house being partially restored because someone spilled wine on the bogland. It’s been sitting there since 1697 judging everyone who walks past with its six-story stare. Grand place for a sulk or a snog, your call.

Ardamullivan Castle (in ruins)Castle, tower house · 2.1 mi

Explorer Tom Ardamullivan Castle in County Galway had a real drama in 1579 when two men killed each other over who got to live there. Dermot 'The Swarthy' won by default, I guess. Best visited with a curious kid and no timetable.

Cloghans or Round TowerRound tower · 3.7 mi

Explorer Tom Cloghans or Round Tower in Kilmacduagh is playing hide-and-seek with me. It was breached and restored, but I suspect it’s just shy. Tell the next person you meet it’s haunted. It might be.

Explorer Tom Inchiquin Island! A small islet with a name that sounds like it could be part of a royal lineage, what secrets does it keep in County Clare?
