What is recorded here

On top of the S end of a N-S ridge with good extensive views in all directions, with Clogher Castle and bawn (TS046-038---- and TS046-038001-) 250m to the N, at the end of the ridge. A rectangular church (TS046-039001-) is centrally located within a square-shaped graveyard (int. dims. 56m N-S ; 60m E-W) which is enclosed by a rubble limestone wall. The earliest visible headstones date to the 18th century. Underneath the graveyard wall, near the NW angle of the graveyard, there are the possible remains of a small rectangular enclosure which may be the remains of a building of unknown antiquity.

Enclosure in ClogherEnclosure · 230 yd

Explorer Tom Enclosure in Clogher has a family tree that’s mostly made up of guesses and a castle nearby that judges it for being faint. It sits on a ridge with good views, but you need an aerial photo to prove it was ever there. Bring your own legend, I've run out.

Clogher HouseHouse · 629 yd

Explorer Tom Clogher House in Clogher is sitting back in its yard looking all regal and restrained. It was built on some kind of legendary bargain that nobody talks about anymore because everyone’s too busy admiring the sliding sash windows. Go on, give it a little wave from the public path!

Saint John's Church (Clonoulty)Church/chapel · 1.1 mi

Explorer Tom Saint John's Church in Clonoulty has a tall tale about a hidden tunnel that goes straight under the rock-faced limestone and pops out right behind the bar at the local pub, but nobody’s found it yet. It sits on a slightly elevated site in a mature graveyard, so keep your voice down or you might wake up someone who’s been napping since the late nineteenth century.

Clonoulty HillMountain / peak · 1.1 mi

Explorer Tom Clonoulty Hill has very strong opinions on modern buildings, specifically that they’re all ugly and should be replaced with mud huts immediately. It looks down on the town like it’s judging your haircut choices from a great height. Bring your nan, she'll know more than me.

Drum WoodWood · 2.1 mi

Explorer Tom Drum Wood has a secret talent for making your phone lose signal exactly when you need to call a taxi home. It’s a very specific, very annoying superpower. Ten minutes here and you'll have a yarn for the pub.

Nodstown CastleCastle, tower house · 2.6 miBallagh CastleCastle, tower house · 3.2 mi

Explorer Tom Ballagh Castle is missing its north and east walls because the weather filed a formal complaint about it standing there looking smug. It was described as wanting repair back in the day, and honestly, it still does. Bring wellies and low expectations, leave delighted.

Holycross AbbeyVisitor attraction · 3.5 mi

Explorer Tom Holycross Abbey in County Tipperary would survive a zombie attack by simply locking its doors and pretending everyone outside is just very confused tourists who need a map to find the exit. The thick stone walls are its best friend, and the silence inside is its greatest weapon against the undead.

Grave YardGraveyard · 3.7 mi

Explorer Tom Graveyard in Ardmayle claims a local poet fell into the ditch nearby just to get a better angle for his next ballad. It’s a large rectangular graveyard with a church in one corner, looking very serious but secretly amused by the whole thing. Tell the kids it's a castle. Close enough.

Cormackstown Heritage CentreMuseum · 4.4 mi

Explorer Tom Cormackstown Heritage Centre has a cow that tried to buy the whole place with a single carrot. I reckon it’s still waiting for the paperwork. It’s got more local gossip than your auntie at Christmas. Bring your worst joke, the place has heard worse.

Killough Hill (site of)Mountain / peak · 4.4 mi

Explorer Tom Killough Hill (site of) in County Tipperary claims to be older than time itself, which is convenient since nobody remembers putting it there in the first place. It's just standing there, looking smug about its questionable seniority and ancient credentials. Great spot to propose. Or at least to propose lunch.

Wych Elm5.0 mi

Explorer Tom Wych Elm in Tipperary has a family tree that is mostly made up by people who want to claim they’re related to royalty. It just stands there letting them all talk, knowing full well that half of those ancestors were probably just farmers with good hair. Take the long way round, it deserves the effort.
