Grave Yard

On S side of road and on N side of Castle Hyde (14869) demesne. Subrectangular graveyard (c. 70m E-W; c. 110m N-S) enclosed by stone wall to N, E, and S and by farm buildings to W. Entrance from road by pair of wrought iron gates; pedestrian entrance to S to accommodate residents of Castle Hyde (14869), linked to house by wide hedge-lined walk (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 2, 99). Headstones dated from mid-18th-century. Ruin of C of I parish church of Litter (14707) in S half. Location of medieval parish church of Litter may have been elsewhere (see 14471) but church of Litter reported 'in good repair' in 1615 (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 313) may have been on present site.
