Grave Yard

On level ground in marshy land, a medieval church (TS061-035001-) is centrally placed within an almost square graveyard. There are three enclosures immediately to the S and SE (TS061-035002-; TS061-035003-; TS061-035006-) and an enclosure (TS061-034----) 200m to the W. The graveyard (diam. 42m N-S; 43m E-W) is enclosed by a stone wall with an entrance gate and stile mid-way along the W wall. There is also a stile roughly centrally placed in the E wall. The headstones, which are predominantly of 19th-century date, are all S of the church. The earliest headstone noted bears the date 1827. According to the OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 109 (295)) in 1840 the 'large graveyard attached to this Church, [is] now much in use'. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
