What is recorded here

In 1418 William O’Kelly spent fifteen days erecting what was known as the ‘Small Castle’ or the Caisleán n Mallacht – of the curses – at Roscommon opposite the great Castle (RO039-043001-). Donal, son of Murlough O’Conor of Sligo and clan Donough attempted to demolish it but didn’t succeed and instead burnt the church of Kilcooley (RO028-046001-) (AFM; AC). There are no other references to this castle and its location is not known. The castle was probably a small fortification. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload; 6 October, 2017
