Wood-Martin (1882, 240) refers to a mill at Ballincar being in existence before the accession of Queen Elizabeth I. One is listed in 1633-6 as 'an Irish mill', probably a horizontal mill (Wood-Martin 1889, 144). On inspection in 1994 none of the original mill building remained though a mill-race was extant.
