Embanked enclosure

Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 40m) on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a gentle S-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 29m E-W; 27m N-S) defined by a broadly spread earthen bank (Wth 8m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.2-0.7m), with traces of an outer fosse (Wth of top 8m; Wth of base c. 6m; max. ext. D 0.3m at N) NW-SE. Slight traces of an external bank (Wth 6m; max. H 0.6m) are visible at E, and there is an entrance (Wth 3.5m) at ESE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
