What is recorded here

Situated towards the bottom of a gentle S-facing slope. An early ecclesiastical site which may have had an oval ecclesiastical enclosure (WA008-030002-) originally, but this is now truncated at S by an E-W field bank. D-shaped, grass-covered area (dims. 58m E-W; 22m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 0.2-0.5m) with slight traces of an external fosse (Wth c. 3m) W-N-E. There is a mound (WA008-030006-) towards the centre. Archaeological testing during 1998 produced evidence of furnaces (WA008-052----) c. 85m to the NW of the church (Pollock 2000). Further archaeological testing (11E0077) c. 50m to the E produced no related material, but in an assessment Pollock concludes that the site might not be ecclesiastical, (Pollock 2011).
