Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1915, with raised “GR” royal cipher. Set in painted rendered wall.
This post box, which remains in use, is an important surviving artefact of early mass-produced cast-iron work. The raised detailing throughout serves to enhance the design quality of the composition, while the royal cipher in particular is of significance as a tangible reminder of Ireland as part of the British Empire.
