Dónal Lunny was born in Tullamore, County Offaly, on 10 March 1947. He joined Planxty, The Bothy Band and later groups, helping lead the renaissance of Irish traditional music for more than five decades. In 2025 he received the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.
