Freestanding red brick chimney, c.1890, on single-bay two-storey plinth with entire composition on a polygonal plan. Now disused. Painted red brick Running bond walls to plinth with chamfer to first stage, and cut-stone coping over. Red brick Running bond walls to base to chimney with moulded coping, and red brick tapered shaft over having series of stringcourses. Square-headed door opening to first stage to plinth with painted red brick relieving arch over. Fittings now gone. Round-headed window openings to first stage with oculus window openings to top stage having red brick dressings. Fittings now gone. Set back from road in grounds shared with Portlaw Cotton Factory having overgrown grounds to site.

A picturesque structure of industrial heritage significance, constructed entirely in red brick, and incorporating fine detailing, which enhances the architectural design quality of the composition. The scale of the chimney is comparatively rare in a rural context, the slender shaft presenting a prominent, elegant landmark in the locality. The chimney forms an integral component of an industrial complex, and attests to the redevelopment of the grounds as a cotton spinning works in the late nineteenth century following the closure of the cotton factory in 1877. Although now long disused, the chimney retains its original form and massing, and remains an important element of the architectural heritage of the locality.
