MoteBarrow, ring-barrow · 61 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom Mote in Aggard Beg sits on an esker ridge like a giant's discarded hat. The ring-barrow is partially gone, probably lost in a bet. If it's closed, admire it from the road like a polite stalker.

Mound in Aggard BegMound · 355 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom Mound in Aggard Beg vanished so fast you'd think it ate something bad at lunch. Quarrying took its best bits and left nothing but a memory hole. Count the crows, then count again.

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in ManninFairy fort / earthen ringfort · 481 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Mannin is a poorly preserved circle with field walls cutting through it like bad news. It’s sitting right next to a church and graveyard, which is awkward. Go with someone who loves old stuff and watch them melt.

Ring-ditch in ManninRing-ditch · 539 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom A hero nobody remembers saved this Mannin ring-ditch from being eaten by a giant badger. Whisper a secret at it, it’s kept worse ones in the mud.

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in LissindraganFairy fort / earthen ringfort · 790 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lissindragan has hawthorn trees growing through it like the world's most aggressive hair extensions. It is currently in a furious argument with a field wall about who owns the southeast corner. Go back in winter, it's a different animal.

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Aggard BegFairy fort / earthen ringfort · 830 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Aggard Beg is well-preserved because it’s too stubborn to crumble. I hear it was nearly sold for a horse, which would have been a terrible trade. Perfect detour when the satnav has a meltdown; it likes being found by accident.

Man-made underground passage in ManninMan-made underground passage · 946 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom This other Man-made underground passage in Mannin is also invisible, which means it’s winning the lottery of being forgotten by everyone else. If it won a lotto, I bet it’d buy a bigger hole to sit in and ignore all the noise above ground. Bring a flask of something warm and a story to swap.

IndicatedWell · 957 ydComputer-made picture

Explorer Tom Well in Lissindragan makes a spooky humming sound at night that sounds like a dying cat. It’s probably just the wind, but let's keep the mystery alive for fun. Bring a flask of something warm and a story to swap with the ghosts.

bridge1111 yd

Explorer Tom Bridge in Ballylin West looks like it’s doing a flex, all that heavy rustication just to show off its engineering muscles. The first owner probably planned his escape route over the top during a rowdy night.

Aggard HouseCountry house · 1497 yd

Explorer Tom Aggard House in Aggard More is all fancy limestone steps and suspiciously tall finials, probably to keep nosey neighbours at a distance. It’s basically a giant stone shrug saying 'what do you want?' Pack a picnic and a

Strongfort Castle (in ruins)Castle, tower house · 2.6 mi

Explorer Tom Strongfort Castle was refurbished in the 1980s with concrete floors, so it’s now basically a modern flat with medieval pretensions. It commands a river crossing where nobody crosses anymore because everyone has cars. Ideal stop for a big stretch and a bigger yawn at the crenellations.

Castle (in ruins)Castle, Anglo-Norman masonry castle · 3.8 mi

Explorer Tom Castle in Ardrahan North, County Galway is probably where the rabbits hold their council meetings every Tuesday night. They look very serious when they discuss the grass situation out there. Perfect spot to practise your best tour-guide voice.
