Castle, unclassified in Stabannan, County Louth, Ireland. Local tradition places it close to the modern church, while a 1547 Ardee inquisition named a castle and one messuage in Stabannan Demesne. Whether those are the same remains uncertain, but the mention suggests a small working estate rather than a grand fortress.

There is a local tradition of a castle close to the modern church (Anon. 1923, 203). Leslie (1908, 114) quotes from an inquisition held in Ardee in 1547 which states that Stabannan Demesne had a castle and one messuage with 6s. 8d per annum. It may be same as (LH015-016----). The above description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991).
