Burial ground in Cabragh

In undulating pasture. Raised subrectangular area (29m N-S; 17.3m E-W) bounded on E and W sides by rock outcrop. An arrangement of four stones (H 0.52m to 0.76m) stands in NW quadrant; stones are aligned E-W and form a rough square (1.5m square). Fifth stone stands at right angles to NE stones, 1.9m away. Interior overgrown with many small loose stones underfoot. Known locally as burial ground. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Portal dolmen; likely dates to the Neolithic period (c. 4000–2500 BCE). Its megalithic structure and orientation suggest a ceremonial or funerary function, typical of early communal burial practices in Ireland.
