Aughshemus Bridge

Four-arch rubble stone road bridge over river, c.1800. Repaired, c.2000. Random rubble stone walls with lime mortar, squared rubble stone triangular cut-waters to piers, rendered coping to parapets, and section of parapet reconstructed, c.2000, having rendered coping. Series of four round arches with squared rubble stone voussoirs, and squared rubble stone soffits. Sited spanning River Mahon with grass banks to river.

An elegantly-composed bridge forming an appealing landmark on the River Mahon, and the traditional construction of which assimilates attractively into the surrounding landscape. The bridge forms an important component of the civil engineering heritage of County Waterford, as indicated by the construction of the arches that have retained their original profile.
