Weir Bridge

Limestone triple-arch road bridge over River Nanny, built c.1770, northern arch rebuilt c.1830, latter when river was dredged. Walls and approach walls of rubble limestone. Older arches are round and have dressed voussoirs. Later arch is segmental and has squared limestone blocks to jambs and ashlar voussoirs. Middle arch blocked with grassy rubble limestone walling below impost level to each side, although build-up at east in particular forms embankment that suggests southmost arch may have served millrace.

This bridge is a good example of an eighteenth-century structure that was partly rebuilt a century later when the river was dredged. The different qualities of the arches reflect the eras of their construction and the bridge continues to carry road traffic after two centuries.
