Ballygaddy Bridge crosses the Clare sideways while keeping its feet lined up with the bank. It’s the exact manoeuvre of a man slipping out of Mass who wants his shoes to maintain that he’s staying.

Single-arch limestone road bridge, erected c.1860, over Clare River. Single wide segmental arch having rusticated voussoirs, coursed walls of rustcated limestone blocks, and chamfered dressed limestone parapets. Abutments are battered and of coursed rusticated limestone.
This is a very fine bridge of sophisticated construction and is in excellent condition. It crosses the River Clare at a slight diagonal while keeping the springing parallel to the river bank. The quality of the stonework and engineering is notable.
