Water pump in Knockmark has a decorated neck, a decorated cap, and a finial on top of that. Somewhere in the design there was a chance to stop, and nobody with a pencil could be trusted to take it.

This cast-iron water pump makes a positive contribution to the streetscape of the Drumree. The decorative detailing, such as the banding and fluting add artistic interest to this functional object. Water pumps played an important social and functional role in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, by providing a communal water source.
