Water pump in Ballyfore has its own iron railings, a pointed cap and a curved handle presented like an arm awaiting a kiss. You arrive in Castlejordan with a bucket and discover you need an introduction to His Damp Excellency.

This cast-iron water pump makes a positive contribution to the streetscape of the Castlejordan. The decorative detailing, such as the banding and fluting add artistic interest to this functional object. Water pumps played an important social and functional role in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, by providing a communal water source.
