Freestanding cast-iron water pump, installed c.1870, with cylindrical banded shaft having moulded fluted spout with bucket grip, fluted domed cap with finial and curved cow-tail pumping handle. Cast-iron plate to base with numbers in relief.
This water pump exhibits a high level of artistic detailing in its design, with an elegantly-curved handle, banded shaft and finial. It is an interesting and notable feature on the streetscape and is a reminder of a time prior to domestic mains water supply.
